If You Want a Drink, Go To Trixies…

Day 13 -

Powered (but most likely slowed) by the enormous steaks we had for Brett’s Birthday Dinner last night, we got a late start out of Seeley Lake. Compunding this was a lunch of greasy burgers and milk shakes. Out on the road, we felt slow and full in our spandex. Midway through the ride, we stopped in the quaint town of Ovando (Pop. about 50), not to be confused with Orlando. We learned the history of the town, including its role in the Lewis Minus Clark Expedition. Here, we rested while enjoying soda and energy drinks on the porch of the general store, from which we could view all of town. Based on a recommendation from Seeley Lake and the fact that it was given its own icon on our map, we headed out to Trixie’s for a drink and some billiards. We then continued our ride to Big Nelson Campground on Cooper Lake.

Much of our time is spent on dirt and gravel roads. We don’t often come across many cars, but when we do there is a wide range of behavior from the motorists. A few stop and let us pass to avoid covering us in dust, but most drive quickly by (some uncomfortably close and fast with large trailers) kicking up tons of dust.  This didn’t seem strange to us as they were likely in a rush until a man at Trixie’s pointed out that if they were in a rush, they shouldn’t be on dirt roads – and probably not even in Montana for that matter.
