Back Track
Disappointed that late the night before we’d decided to leave the route and take the paved road to the campsite after a wrong turn we decided to bike back along the three miles of the route that we’d missed the night before. It was well worth it to see the morning views as the trail wound up along the Warm River. Upon returning from our backtracking, we set off from camp and headed towards Wyoming.
Just after leaving Idaho (a bit too soon – we haven’t even come close to exhausting all of our Napoleon Dynamite quotes) and crossing in to Wyoming we met some Great Divide Motorcyclists. As they sped off we contemplated the ease with which they could cover the same route we were doing and managed to convince ourselves that it really was worth doing it without a motor. A little further down the road we came across a lake with so many lily pads on it that it was almost hard to tell that the lake was even there.
We skirted southern border of Yellowstone later in the day and entered into the land of narrow roads with oblivious drivers driving over sized RVs (pulling along giant SUVs of course) that is the unfortunate side of the Yellowstone National Park area. We camped in the industrialized campsite of Flagg Ranch, packed into the camping version of cookie cutter suburbs among some entertaining, raccoon hat wearing, motorcycle riding, neighbors who were well prepared for anything the outdoors may throw at them.
