Cooking

  • Before the trip we decided to not carry a stove/pots/fuel and forego one of our most despised duties – washing dishes. This cut down on our weight considerably.
  • 3 Sporks
  • MSR Pot holder – for placing and retrieving cans of food in the fire

Drinking

  • MSR Miniworks filter
  • Potable Aqua water purification pills for backup
  • Water Bottles – we each had several bottles, kept in cages on our bikes. We felt bottles were a more comfortable option than wearing hydration packs all day for two months.
  • Bladders – for the long waterless stretches we carried 3 dromedary bags. Lightweight and extremely packable, our bladders could hold an extra 13L+ of water when we needed it. We used a variety of MSR Hydration bags.
  • Aluminum/Steel bottles – Jeff and Brett carried .6L metal bottles for keeping tequila, southern comfort and occasionally even some Ullr.

Bike Repair

  • 2 extra skewers
  • Tubes – some 29er, some 26″ to fit Brett’s bike and Kelly and Jeff’s bikes/trailer
  • Master-links – to fix broken chains
  • Tire irons
  • Patch kits – both standard tube patches and tire patches/plugs for Jeff and Kelly’s tubeless tires
  • Multi-tools – we each had one
  • Allen tool – with a wider variety of Allen wrench sizes
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Leatherman – with needle-nose pliers
  • Cables – we carried both rear brake and rear derailleur cables
  • Pump
  • CO2 pump – mostly as a backup, though we resorted to it near the end of the trip for speed reasons
  • Twisty-ties
  • Duct Tape
  • Nuts/bolts – a variety of nuts and bolts to fix common bike problems

Miscellaneous

  • Pacific Outdoor 7×9 Tarp (for quick shelter from afternoon storms, covering bikes, etc)
