Catching Up From Our Rest Days
Today, we were powered by all varieties of huckleberry products (except actual huckleberries). Now a day behind from our “rain day” in Bigfork, we set out to make up some mileage and make it to Seeley Lake in two days, rather than our original plan of three. The day started with a climb over the mountains separating Flathead Lake and Swan Lake. It continued into the Swan Valley, between the Mission Mountains and the Swan Mountains. The long day was filled with many animal print sightings from the wet ground the day before (mountain lions chasing deer, bears, the flathead lake monster and other things created by our imaginations). Our travels were again slowed temporarily by a stubborn moose. Like last time, had this been a Sasquatch, we would have known exactly what to do. Eventually though, we safely made it to our camp for the night, right at the confluence of numerous forest service roads.
